About

At Painted Wolf Wines, we celebrate and help conserve the endangered African wild dog, our most charismatic predator. Wild dogs and cyclists have much in common: individual prowess, teamwork, energy, camaraderie and a never-give-up attitude. Jeremy is an enthusiastic cyclist, and has used this passion as an additional way to raise funds for conservation. He has organised rides through some of the remaining pockets of wilderness inhabited by wild dogs as well as sponsoring major cycling events like the Tour de Tuli, which benefits the Children in the Wilderness charity.

Jemma is our old bush vehicle, which carried us on wonderful adventures to remote and pristine places. She is now engaged in seeking out grapes, and in motivating funding for conservation. The label features a water colour painting by Jenny Metelerkamp, our friend and companion when we lived in the bush in Botswana.

Tasting Notes

This wine has a fruity aroma and flavours of tropical fruit. Sweet melon, pear, peaches, and pineapple with an underlying savoury minerality. The wine has a great texture and a long layered finish with bright acidity keeping it fresh and vibrant.

Food suggestions

Jemma Chenin blanc is delicious on its own. The wine has tons of flavours and poise and is a versatile partner for many different dishes.

The Vineyard

Chenin Blanc is harvested from a number of blocks on farms in the Swartland region, both irrigated and dry farmed vines of various ages between 10 and 30 years old.

Winemaking

2017 was the third dry vintage on the trot. It was however quite cool coming into the harvest period. We adapted the vintage by making two separate batches of wine, the first from early picked fruit, and the second a riper portion fermented with French oak staves. We opted for simple cold fermentation with a few months of lees contact. The wine is made up from a number of different vineyards harvested from a range of sites and soil types. The oak component wakes up around 50% of the total blend. The two components had different flavours and textures from which we have endeavored to produce a well- balanced interesting wine which is a joy to drink.

Aging potential

This wine should be drunk within 2-3 years of the vintage.

Oh hi!

If you're reading this, you're one of our favourite kind of people: the kind that take time out of their public holiday to scout for deals.

To clarify, we love it when people shop on work days too, but that's different. You're obliged to look at your screen for 8 hours on those days, of course you're going to visit your favourite sites between emails.

But today you could have done anything.

And yet instead of going skydiving or wine tasting or off-road canoeing, you're here. Thanks for that.
